Manton Sprague Eddy (1892-1962) was born in Chicago, Illinois. In 1918 he commissioned in the infantry and served in World War I with the 4th Division of the American Expeditionary Forces. From 1921 to 1924, he was a member of the Infantry Board. After graduating from the Command and General Staff School in 1934, he taught there until 1939.
